Causes of lumbar disc herniation and daily precautions
![]()
1. The degenerative change of lumbar intervertebral disc is the basic factor.
The degeneration of nucleus pulposus is mainly manifested by the decrease of water content and small pathological changes such as instability and loosening of vertebral joints caused by dehydration. The degeneration of annulus fibrosus is mainly manifested by the decrease of toughness.
2. damage
Repeated long-term external forces cause slight damage, aggravating the degree of degeneration.
3. Weakness of auto-anatomical factors of intervertebral disc
The intervertebral disc gradually lacks blood circulation and has poor repair ability after adulthood. On the basis of the above factors, a certain inducing factor that can lead to the sudden increase of pressure on the intervertebral disc may cause the nucleus pulposus with poor elasticity to pass through the fibrous ring that has become less rigid, resulting in the nucleus pulposus protrusion.
4. genetic factors
Lumbar disc herniation has been reported as a familial disease.
5. lumbosacral congenital anomalies
It includes sacralization of lumbar spine, lumbarization of sacral spine, hemivertebral deformity, facet joint deformity and asymmetry of articular process. These factors can change the stress on the lower lumbar spine, thus constituting an increase in the internal pressure of the intervertebral disc and prone to degeneration and injury.
6. inducing factors
On the basis of degeneration of intervertebral disc, some factor that can induce sudden increase of intervertebral space pressure can cause nucleus pulposus protrusion. Common inducing factors include increased abdominal pressure, abnormal waist posture, sudden weight-bearing, pregnancy, cold and dampness, etc.
